Toy Company CEO, Zhang Shuhong, Kills himself after recall

Another interesting article to start off the week:

BEIJING, China (AP) -- The head of a Chinese toy manufacturing company at the center of a huge U.S. recall has committed suicide, a state-run newspaper said Monday.

Two toys of the same kind recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Zhang Shuhong, who ran the Lee Der Industrial, killed himself at a warehouse over the weekend, days after China announced it had temporarily banned exports by the company, the Southern Metropolis Daily said.

Lee Der made 967,000 toys recalled earlier this month by Mattel because they were made with paint found to have excessive amounts of lead. The plastic preschool toys, sold under the Fisher-Price brand in the U.S., included the popular Big Bird, Elmo, Dora and Diego characters.

The newspaper said that a supplier, Zhang's best friend, sold Lee Der fake paint that was used in the toys.

"The boss and the company were harmed by the paint supplier, the closest friend of our boss," a manager surnamed Liu was quoted as saying.

Liu said Zhang hung himself on Saturday, according to the report. It is common for disgraced officials to commit suicide in China.

A company official who answered the telephone at the Lee Der factory in the southern city of Foshan on Monday said he had not heard of the news. A man at Lee Der's main office in Hong Kong said the company was not accepting interviews and hung up.

The recall by El Segundo, California-based Mattel came just two months after RC2 Corp., a New York company, recalled 1.5 million Chinese-made wooden railroad toys and set parts from its Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway product line because of lead paint.

The maker, Hansheng Wood Products Factory, also was included in the export ban announced Thursday by the General Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, one of China's quality watchdogs.

The administration also ordered both companies to evaluate and change their business practices.

Lead poisoning can cause vomiting, anemia and learning difficulties. In extreme cases, it can cause severe neurological damage and death.

The quality watchdog also said police were investigating two companies' use of "fake plastic pigment" but did not give any details. Such pigments are a type of industrial latex usually used to increase surface gloss and smoothness.

Chinese companies often have long supply chains, making it difficult to trace the exact origin of components, chemicals and food additives.

The toy recalls were among the largest in recent months involving Chinese products, which have come under fire for containing potentially dangerous high levels of chemicals and toxins.

Owen Wilson Commits Suicide!

This is the first thing I heard yesterday when the story came over the TV.... how misleading is that? I am very glad it isn't true and I hope that Owen Wilson gets the help he needs, and gets better soon!!!

Here is the story. Also, check the full story out here

"LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Police were called to Owen Wilson's home because of an attempted suicide report, according to a police log of weekend calls.
Wilson

Owen Wilson has asked the media to allow him to "heal in private."

The log doesn't indicate who made the call Sunday, but lists "attempt suicide" as the reason for it.

Wilson was in good condition Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Hospital officials said Tuesday they weren't releasing any updated information.

The actor's publicist, Ina Treciokas, declined to answer questions Tuesday about whether Wilson attempted to commit suicide. She said Wilson's statement asking for privacy was all that was being released. Video Watch the mysteries surrounding Wilson's hospitalization »

Wilson had two movies in production and two more upcoming releases to help promote.

DreamWorks Pictures said in a statement that filming continues on "Tropic Thunder," a comedy starring Wilson. The studio offered no details on whether Wilson's role in the film, directed by Ben Stiller and starring Jack Black, would be recast.

It was also unknown if Wilson's hospitalization would affect his appearance opposite Jennifer Aniston in the 20th Century Fox comedy "Marley & Me."

A Fox spokesman told Hollywood trade paper Daily Variety that "it's a totally inappropriate question at this time" whether he would appear in the movie.

Wilson's hospitalization could also keep him from helping promote "The Darjeeling Limited," in which he stars alongside Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman. The Fox Searchlight film was to be released next month.

Paramount also had a Wilson film due out in March: the Judd Apatow-produced "Drillbit Taylor."

The 38-year-old actor was initially taken by ambulance from his home to Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica on Sunday and later transferred to Cedars.

The police log shows the initial call came in at 12:08 p.m. and cleared at 5:17 p.m. and a report was filed. Police said Monday that privacy laws prohibited them from releasing that document.

The police log was obtained Tuesday by CelebTV.com.

Treciokas released a brief statement on Wilson's behalf: "I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time."

Sniper David Munis shot and killed himself!

I have already spoken on this story, but since so many people are visiting my site to read about the story, I thought I would include this article from MSN.com about David Munis killing himself. Very sad, 2 lives lost in this tragedy!

"LARAMIE, Wyo. - A military sharpshooter accused of killing his estranged wife as she sang at a bar died Tuesday night after being found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest, police said.

Wyoming Army National Guardsman David Munis was found by a search team at about 7:45 p.m. after police received an anonymous call from a man who spotted Munis at a small camping trailer in a remote area about 15 miles north of Laramie and about five miles outside the search area, Albany County Sheriff’s Lt. Michael Garcia said.

He had shot himself in the chest with a high-power rifle, Garcia said.

Munis, 36, was flown to a hospital and pronounced dead at 8:01 p.m., Garcia said.

“I’m glad it’s over,” the Laramie Boomerang quoted Garcia as saying. “The people in the community can now feel at rest, and the people in Roger’s Canyon can feel more at ease.”"

WWE Wrestler, Chris Benoit, wife, and son, dead! Murder suicide! Steroids

WOW! Famous WWE Wrestler Chris Benoit and his family were found dead!

"WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife, and son were found dead Monday and police said they were investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide."

Is this another case of steroids messing with people's minds and making them go mad? I am clearly not a huge wrestling fan, but this story is crazy! This type of story really reminds me that having all the money in the world can't buy happiness! I don't have much but I do have a loving husband, family, a steady job, and the Lord!.. and I am as happy as I could ever be! I don't need all the money and fame... I mean, look at how it ended up here.. someone who looks like they have everything anyone could want, and bang.. it's over just like that... and for what? Very sad!
