Dr. William Petit Jr.'s wife Jennifer Hawke-Petit and 2 daughters, Hayley and Michaela, were Murdered!

Not an opinion piece, just thought many of you might want to read this story by CNN.com

"CHESHIRE, Connecticut (AP) -- At least two men broke into a prominent doctor's home early Monday, kidnapped a female family member to withdraw money from a bank and then killed his wife and their two daughters, police said.

Dr. William Petit Jr., who was severely injured, told police his family had been held hostage for hours before one member, who was not identified, was taken to the bank with a suspect.

Bank employees were suspicious of the transaction and called police, who surrounded Petit's home, authorities said.

A town police officer saw two men leaving the home as it was engulfed in flames, authorities said. The men sped away in a station wagon, striking several police cruisers before they were captured.

Petit's wife, Jennifer Hawke-Petit, and their two daughters, Hayley and Michaela, were found dead in the home, said a law enforcement official with firsthand knowledge of the investigation.

The official confirmed the deaths on the condition of anonymity because autopsy results were still pending.

Authorities would not release the names of the suspects. The two men are due Tuesday in Meriden Superior Court.

Petit, 50, a well-known diabetes specialist, was in stable condition at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, though it was not released how he was injured.

"It is a shocking day for everyone. It's just beyond anyone's understanding," said Larry Tanner, president and chief executive officer of The Hospital of Central Connecticut.

Petit is the medical director of the Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at The Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. His wife of 22 years worked at the Cheshire Academy, a boarding school as co-director of its health center.

Their upper-middle class neighborhood includes Colonial homes with well-kept lawns in the New Haven suburb.

Neighbor Walter Ryan was walking his dog when he saw the flames coming from the home and then watched as police, with guns drawn, moved through yards and shouted, "'Get out of the car!"'

The Rev. Ronald A. Rising, a neighbor, said he has known the family for more than 10 years.

"They're just a lovely family," he said. "It's just awful to think it would happen to a family like that in this community. You don't think about those things happening."

Neighbor Laura Parisi, a friend of the Petits' older daughter, Hayley, said the 17-year-old had just graduated from the prestigious Miss Porter's School in Farmington and was accepted at Dartmouth.

"It's just insane," Parisi said of the deaths. "I can't even describe it.""

no need to call him names just because he asked a question. with so many fishy family murders, i think it is a reasonable question to ask whether the husband is a suspect. you have to remember, this guy posted that comment before any real information had been posted. he didnt accuse him, just asked a question.

oh, and you should have the guts to put your name to a post if you are going to say such harsh comments

I have had many comments that I will not be approving due to harsh language, and even threats. I do however, want to address them. Many people are saying that my article and comments to "anonymous" show that I am spreading rumors and blaming Dr. Petit for the murders. I have done nothing of the sort and personally, do NOT think he had anything to do with the murders! I simply thought it was inappropriate for "anonymous" to bash Koyaanisqatsi for simply asking a question about the case.

The title says it all as to what the poster's real intention was. I know Dr. Petit, as he is my husband's endocrinologist. He had nothing to do with this horrific thing that destroyed his family. People who make such claims without proof or even the slightest bit of informations are irresponsible, ignorant, and insensitive. Shame on you for not asking a question, but for trying to destort the title of the actual ariticle.

are you saying that the title of my post was aimed at trying to make Dr. Petit look like the killer? I didn't distort anything and my title was not aimed at anyone. My post was simply to talk about what happened and if you read the title as thought I am accusing Dr. Petit, then you obviously read it wrong.

No I read it correctly. Perhaps you should re-read it yourself. Doesn't it say in quotation marks that Dr. William Petit Jr. had his wife Jennifer Hawke-Petit and 2 daughters, Hayley and Michaela murdered!??? What is it that you are trying to say? And why don't you correct the title of that article? That is not what the title was originally. You changed it to suit your sick beliefs. Why don't you go to the memorial tonight in Plainville Ct and decide for yourself? I'm going.

no, you totally misunderstood my title. I never thought or think Dr. Petit was involved. I was simply writing on the breaking story. It wasn't an opinion piece at all (which you would know if you actually read it). I blog for fun and I wouldn't twist the title in that sick way just to get readers. I can see how you might read it wrong and read it as he went out and "had" his family murdered, but that is not how i meant it at all.

No one else had mentioned that they read the title that way until you. I do thank you for bringing that to my attention, and I am changing the title, as I NEVER intended anyone to read it that way. However, the way you went about it, accusing me and assuming i purposely twisted the title in that sick way, was inappropriate. Please don't assume you knew my motives, as you don't know me or my "beliefs."

Well why did you change the title? That was never the original title and you knew it. I live in Southington Ct and I have seen all of the articles and no legitimate news media has made such a claim around here. You are just backtalking. Now your title reads correctly, but why did you change it prior? Wasn't it you who did that and if not then who? Don't make claims to being an honest person when you obviously were just looking for trouble and looking to spread rumors.

I would gladly have responded to your first message, but I have been gone since last Tuesday. I only approved your first message, since the rest were basically the same thing. Here is your response, now that I am home:

You wrote:
“Well why did you change the title? That was never the original title and you knew it.”

My response:
I don't know what you mean by "that was never the original title," as I simply wrote a title to go along with the post. I don't copy my titles from sites, I write my own. I wrote it quickly and never thought anyone would read it the way you took it. However, I can see how it could be taken wrong, and had no problem changing it.

You wrote:
“You are just backtalking. Now your title reads correctly, but why did you change it prior?”

My response:
I thought I clearly answered this question in my last comment. I explained that until you told me that you read it that way, I had not heard from anyone that they had taken my title in that way. Once you commented that you read it like I was trying to accuse Dr. Petit, I gladly changed it, as that was NEVER my intention.

You wrote:
“Don't make claims to being an honest person when you obviously were just looking for trouble and looking to spread rumors.”

My response:
As I mentioned in my last comment, I blog for fun and my blog is not aimed at starting trouble. It was not an opinion piece at all and I stated that in the first sentence of the post. I simply wanted to post the breaking news for my readers to see. My title came across in the wrong way to you, so I changed it. If I were just some shock jock blogger, don't you think it would come through in my articles and not just in 1 random title that you read differently from how I meant it?

Lastly, and I really mean Lastly, as I do not want to continue going back and forth since I have answered your questions and apologize for my original title coming across wrong:
I do thank you for bringing this to my attention, as I did not mean the title in the way you read it and was very happy to change it so that no one else would take it in the way you did. I am glad it now reads better. I hope this answers your questions. Thanks.

No, it does not answer any question. You picked that title and I did not read it wrong. You came out and said in the title that Dr. Petit had his wife and two daughters murdered. It was not the original title for that news aritcle that belongs to cnn. You picked it and you just stated that. Why didn't you just pick a title that coincided with cnn's original title. Why did you chose to blame Dr. Petit for the murders when you did not know that to be the truth. YOu keep saying that I read it wrong. Will you just admit that you wrote it that way to begin with. Your title said Dr. Petit had his wife and two daughters murdered. Whatever you meant by that it was obviously the wrong way to write it. This too will be my last response. I can see that I am the only one wasting my time in speaking to you. Have fun talking to yourself now!

I have now posted this 3 times, but since you don't think I answered your question, I will post it 1 last time and try to elaborate for you a bit more:

I NEVER copy and paste the exact title from sites. I do copy and paste articles, but I always write my own title. I don't do it so I can twist the titles, I do it since it is easier to write a title than to go back to the article again and copy the exact title.

When I wrote "Dr. Petit had his wife killed," I did not mean that he went out and had them murdered. I simply meant that they were killed.. like if you watched a movie and they said, "He had his family murdered right in front of him." Obviously you could take that statement as he went out and had them murdered.. or it could mean his family was murdered in front of him. This is exactly like my title.

You can choose not to believe me, and frankly I don't care. No one else read it the way you did, and as soon as someone (you) read it that way, I changed it, as I never meant it to read that way. I am not going to respond to you again if you simply respond with the same question, since this is the 3rd time I have responded to it.

P.S. Also, I don't blog for anyone except for myself. However, I have just over 1000 people visit my page a day, so I wouldn't say I am talking to myself. Just thought you should know since you seem to be set on the notion that no one visits my site. I don't have many comments because I don't approve many, as it is not meant to be a forum.

I can understand your explanation. Fine if you did not mean it the way that it read. Your intention may not have been how the title read at all and I hope that it wasn't. I'm sure you can see how someone (yes me and probably others) would read it that way as the title was not well elaborated. I am done discussing this as well.

Why is it that you don't approve any responses on your other topics though? It may not be a forum, but don't your 1,000 readers like to read what others are saying about your topics?

well i am glad we have cleared this up, ask I am not a brutal person and did not mean the title in a negative way. i am glad i could change it and clear it up.

I do respond to some, but most I don't. I probably should. most readers dont leave messages though.. guess I am not controversial enough (although you would probably disagree.haha).. I track the # of hits, but that doesnt mean everyone comments, actually very few comments. but that is alright, i blog for fun and for my friends/family to read, not to make it popular.

Yes, I am glad this is cleared up as well. I'm sorry if I went after you about it, but you see we have known Dr.Petit for so many years now. I can't tell you enough what a great Dr. and person he is. Everyone that knows him just loves him and what happened to him and his family was just brutal. I feel so sorry for him and his family.

I'm sorry if I read your title wrong, although from your explanation I can see how you meant it rather than how it read.
