U.S. Military Plane Carrying 3 U.S. Senators, and 1 Rep. (Mel Martinez, Richard Shelby, and James Inhofe) shot at!

A must read:

(CNN) -- A U.S. military plane carrying three U.S. senators and one member of the House of Representatives came under rocket fire Thursday night and had to make evasive maneuvers as it left Baghdad for Amman, Jordan.

"Our plane leaving Iraq was fired upon, and it was a close call, but this is something that our men and women in combat face every day," Rep. Bud Cramer, D-Alabama, said in a statement. "The flight crew was outstanding, and I credit them for the way they handled the situation."

Sens. Mel Martinez, R-Florida; Richard Shelby, R-Alabama; and James Inhofe, R-Oklahoma, were also on the flight.

Multi-National Force-Iraq, in a statement issued Friday, said the C-130 crew "dispensed flares as a defensive countermeasure and conducted standard evasive maneuvers. The aircraft, crew and passengers safely completed their flight."

Shelby told CNN affiliate WVTM in Birmingham, Alabama, that the rockets were "near misses."

"I was looking out the window, a little small window, and I saw a shell or something," Shelby said in a phone interview from Amman, where the plane landed safely. "And then I see a flare. Our plane started maneuvering and changing directions and shaking all around."

The flares are part of the missile avoidance system aboard the C-130 aircraft. Heat from the flares distract rockets that have heat-seeking guidance systems.

In other violence, four policemen were killed and five people were wounded in a car bombing Friday in northern Iraq, police said. The explosive detonated near a convoy in Samarra, said police in that Salaheddin province city.

Meanwhile, U.S. Marines, backed by air support, killed 12 men believed to be al Qaeda in Iraq terrorists in Anbar province, the U.S. military said Friday said.

According to the military, the Marines engaged a group of men loading objects into three cargo trucks Wednesday near Karma, a town about 40 miles (64 kilometers) west of Baghdad.

Marine Corps Harrier jets were called in and dropped two precision-guided bombs, destroying two vehicles.

Marines said they found weapons and bomb-making materials at the scene.

Also, a U.S. Marine and soldier were killed in separate attacks Wednesday in Anbar, the military said.

Both were assigned to the Multi-National Force-West.

The U.S. military death toll in the Iraq war stands at 3,730; seven civilian contractors also have been killed. The military has reported 79 U.S. troop deaths during August, matching last month's toll.

Those figures are lower than fatalities in the previous three months, when there were 100 U.S. deaths in June, 126 in May and 104 in April.

Meanwhile, about 1,500 detainees will be released from Iraqi prisons during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, a statement from the office of Iraqi Vice President Tariq al-Hashimi said.

About 50 people per day will be set free from "American prisons," al-Hashimi adviser Omar al-Jabouri said.

The prisoner release is part of a larger initiative by al-Hashimi to clear "innocent detainees" from prisons in Iraq. The vice president is developing the plan with input from Iraq's political blocs and the U.S. military.

Goodwill gestures are common during Ramadan -- a monthlong observance of daytime fasting and prayer that will begin around September 12.

"The Way of the Christian Samurai"

Do you need advice? Sure, we all do! If you are a Christian, like I am, then you are probably always looking for advice from Godly people. I make sure that I get in the word, but it is also important to listen to others that God has spoken too. If you are like me, then you need to Find out more about 'The Way of the Christian Samurai'!

This great book draws from the writing of the ancient samurai to provide very great reflections and advice for Christians, today. It is a moving book that everyone should pick up.

I love the quote that they have on the very first page of their site, that says,

"The samurai, whose very title means “one who serves,” were skillful warriors of feudal Japan who devoted themselves fully to the service of their masters, willing even to sacrifice their lives in service to their lord. Christians are also called by their Lord, Jesus, to take up their cross and follow Him, and to seek to lose their life for His sake (Matthew 16:24-25)."

This quote really helps you understand that this book really strives to help us understand. Just like the samurai, we need to full devote ourselves to Jesus and follow Him.

I highly suggest checking out this book, and picking it up, today!

Did Attorney General Alberto Gonzales intentionally mislead Congress?

Well, that is what the Justice Department is going to be looking at. CNN is reporting the following:

"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Justice Department inspector general said Thursday he is looking into whether Attorney General Alberto Gonzales may have intentionally misled Congress in sworn testimony.

In a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Sen. Patrick Leahy, D- Vermont, Inspector General Glenn Fine said the Gonzales probe is included in his ongoing investigation into the firings of several U.S. attorneys.

In a letter dated August 16, Leahy asked Fine to investigate Gonzales' July 24 testimony.

"You identified five issues and asked that we investigate whether the statements made by the attorney general were intentionally false, misleading, or inappropriate," Fine's letter to Leahy said.

"The OIG (Office of Inspector General) has ongoing investigations that relate to most of the subjects you addressed by the attorney general's testimony that you identified," Fine said.

The inspector general told Leahy the ongoing probe also includes "a review relating to the terrorist surveillance program, as well as a follow up review of the use of national security letters." Those secret letters are used by federal agents to seek information in spy and terrorism investigations without court orders.

Fine said he is also continuing his investigation into allegations "regarding the removal of certain United States attorneys and improper hiring practices."

Leahy said he was satisfied with Fine's response.

"The current attorney general is leaving, but these questions remain. It is appropriate that the inspector general will examine whether the attorney general was honest with this and other congressional committees about these crucial issues," Leahy said.

Don't Miss
Gonzales resigning as attorney general
Gonzales a loyal Cabinet officer
Fine's letter to Leahy
Gonzales this week announced he is stepping down effective September 17. President Bush said he accepted the resignation with reluctance.

Many members of Congress from both sides of the aisle had called on Gonzales to quit after the firing of several U.S. attorneys in 2006.

In the probe into the U.S. attorney firings, the Senate Judiciary Committee looked into whether the administration may have fired some or all of the U.S. attorneys for political reasons.

In his testimony before the committee on multiple occasions, Gonzales repeatedly seemed to contradict himself, other members of his department or Justice Department documents.

Gonzales also was at the center of a dispute over the controversial no-warrant eavesdropping program authorized by Bush. He testified there was no dissent among administration officials over the program, but later sent a letter to Senate leaders acknowledging he "may have created confusion" in his testimony."

Inside Every Woman, by Vickie Milazzo

So today I found a very interesting book, called "Inside Every Woman". I haven't had the chance to read the entire thing, but the first chapter seemed to give pretty good insight into what the book was about.

As with most books of this nature, the steps seem very surface and common sense. However, they are good principles to keep in mind. I know for me, I try to keep focused on these types of steps each day. Sometimes I feel as though books like this, for women, end up putting down those women who choose to stay home and passionately want to be a stay-at-home mother. I am definitely someone who wants to stay at home with my children, as I believe it is very important for me to raise my children, and not someone else.

I enjoyed that Vickie did not put down this ideal, but instead mentioned how her steps could actually be applied to WHATEVER one chooses to do, even if that passion is to be a stay at home mom. She mentioned this in step 4 when she talked about always being a success student for life. I am currently pregnant and have been studying for about the last 2 years on everything I can find, dealing with pregnancy and parenting. I LOVE it and totally agree with Vickie that it is important to learn every day. I got this lesson when I thought I had learned sooo much about parenting.. and then I worked at a day care. Since that day, I have made an attempt to learn something new, about parenting, every day. I now see how important it is.

While I looked at being a student for life, the other steps are equally as important and just as easy to apply to ones own life. Here are the 5 steps.

1. I will live and work a passionate life
2. I will go for it or reject it outright
3. I will take one action step a day towards my passionate vision
4. I commit to being a success student for life
5. I believe as a Woman I really can do anything

After reading the first chapter, I can see that even though the steps seem very simple, that is the key! They are simple, and all we have to do is stand up and use them to our advantage. I look forward to reading the rest of Vickie's book, "Inside Every Woman".

Check it out today, and don't forget to email Vickie at Vickie@InsideEveryWoman.com to request your Free "Inside Every Woman" bookmark, today!

Another Long Day...

We both love the job, but man does it get long! It seems like August will never end. We get the chance to meet so many new people, but it is just so hectic and fast paced, around here! I can't wait until September hits. I suppose it doesn't help that we are pregnant and there is never enough hours in the day to catch up on sleep! When September rolls around it will be only 1 month until Emry's birthday month though, so we can stick it out just a bit longer! :) It is all worth it!

Get the tickets and seats you have always wanted!

As many of you know, I am a HUGE sports fan! I am always trying to find great deals on tickets and it seems like I usually come up empty handed. Sure, I get tickets, but they are never really the tickets I wanted. Well, I have found the solution, and that answer is Premium Seats USA. They provide a huge selection of first-class tickets to all the sports events and concerts you could ask for. I know 2 years ago when the Dallas Mavericks were playing the Miami Heat, I would have loved to find some good Miami Heat tickets, but I could never get what I was looking for. I sure wish I would have known about Premium Seats USA! I am going to make sure I use them from now on.

Don’t worry, if sports aren’t your thing, you can still find what you are looking for! They have tickets to just about anything you can imagine, including concerts, and even theater events. Whatever you are looking for, Premium Seats USA can most likely help. Give them a shot and see what they can do for you!

Good bye Flip Flops

Everyday I wear flip flops, and it seems like I go through them like candy....I had a beloved white pair not too long ago that hung in there for quite some time, but soon enough the part between the toes came undone, so I found myself at Wal mart once again, and found a tan pair which I bought it April, then just yesterday, I was just sitting in a chair it wasn't touching anything, then BAM! It came undone and they were forever ruined.....then comes Josh's reply "Guess we gotta go to Wal mart again!" haha.....this pair is a horrible pair to let go of becuase they go with everything, and out of the five outfits I only fit into are reduced in half just because of the flip flips not matching anymore....haha

Patience.....why is it a virtue? ;o)

Never in your life has patience played such a part than in pregnancy.....it's bitter sweet, because it's a good thing because pregnancy is really one of the few things that God COMPETELY controls, it seems that everything in life, you don't have to wait for if you choose not to (yes, it's sad), money can buy you just about anything, you can take a loan out at anytime, stores are open 24-7, we're the fast food nation, etc...but pregnancy, every detial you can not touch, you can't hurry it, you can't tell it ah I don't have time right now, it's so beautiful how you have to wait, and humans can't taint it, but then on the other hand, it sure teaches you to slow down on things- cause you just can't get that ultrasound until a certian point, you just aren't going to feel him until he's so big.....because of patience, there's ALWAYS a next step to look forward to, and since you can't hurry that next step up you just have to sit back and enjoy being pregnant in the mean time :o)

Great Gmas are Great :o)

So my Gma is cross stiching a framed piece for Emry, and I'm so axious to see what it looks like....everytime I talk to her I'll ask her "So what have you been up to lately?" And she'll say "Well, I have this grand daughter who's about to have a baby soon- and I'm working away trying to get this done." She says it's taking longer than she thought, but mom says it's gorgeous. I'm glad Gma is doing this for him cause Emry will have something special from his Great Gma to always remember her by :o) And even though it's taking her longer, it's kinda good to keep her occupied, since I know she's terribly lonely now that Gpa's gone :o( So I love you Gma, and Emry does too, and he can't wait to meet you :o) In all sense he's a little token of all his Great Gpas that are gone now.....

Birth Class.....

Pretty soon, we'll be starting a birth class, it's a class that'll go for the month of Sept and we'll meet this lady, Marianne, for about 3 hours each night, just the three of us, so it's nice to get our own teacher to ourselves....It's called "eclectic" meaning, it's not just Lamaze or Bradley method, she goes over a variety of ways without just telling you one way of doing it. We're excited, we don't know what to expect but being first timers at this labor thing, I'm sure we've got a lot to learn :o) I'm excited to hear back from her about which day we're actually going to start, it's so much fun preparing for his birth- you never get tired of day dreaming about it :o)

Home Group

So our church is kicking off a community wide kickoff, where about everyone in the church will be apart of a home group, consisting of about 15-20 people each. We joined one, and the first home group start next Thurs., the 6th- so we're excited. They go over a certian study, there's a book Grace is giving out to each member, and it lasts up until Christmas. We will at least be able to attend for the next few months, but I'm thinkin we'll miss the end of it, because of Emry being born, and then right after our families coming down to visit, then basically we're off for Christmas break already. BUT at least we'll be able to participate in most of it- don't know what to expect but it'll be fun :o)

Emry my STRONG boy...

So Emry's movin a lot....what's good now is he's getting a little older and I can tell he's getting more into the swing of when to sleep, etc...There still are the "go to sleep Emry, I can't until you do" kinda nights, but for the most part he knows now when to sleep and not be so sensitive to my every move. I used to be afraid to turn to the other side in the middle of the night, and dreaded getting up to go to the bathroom, because it seems like it took nothing to make him wide awake, and then there I was trying to get back to sleep and he's Josh jr. spazzing inside of me, as I looked at Josh while he slept like a baby...or not. haha, fun nights, love every sec....but amazing how much they learn and grow in such a short amount of time....

Vacation in paradise!

Just one more vacation before the baby comes, that is what we have been discussing in our household. There really is no other place I would rather visit than Hawaii, but there are just so many different places to look when thinking of visiting there. If you are like us and looking at traveling to Hawaii, I would suggest looking into Gebhart Properties. They have just come out with a new website with all kinds of information about Hawaii resorts and they even have ocean front vacation homes for rent.

Of course there are other sites that offer this type of information, but the resorts and vacation front homes are some of the most beautiful you will find and they are located on both the Big Island and Maui. Even if you are vacationing in paradise, you want to make sure you will be staying in a quality resort or home! Wouldn't it be great to have a beautiful Maui Condo?

Not only will Gebhart Properties help you find a great resort or vacation home, but they can be trusted. They own and manage custom homes in some of the most exclusive resort locations in Hawaii and you will find that no one can match what they have to offer.

If you are thinking of visiting Hawaii, then you should really give Gebhart Properties a look! To book a stay with them, call toll-free at 1-800-545-5151.

A plea from our Moldy Shower....

Oh, why won't you clean me, you man of the house, use your burly strong muscles and scrub me down and out. My tiles are not shiny, I have too much scum, I'm making your wife sneeze after she gets done. I see you and envy, your clean squeaky bodies, as you step out and leave me to be....If only you could see, how much your wife really does care about me, as she longs to stroke brisles along my procelian shell. But the cleaner, as bitter sweet as it is, should stay away from your baby biz, which leaves me with no choice but you. So I love you, you're the man, what else to you want me to say? please clean me so I can sparkle :o)

haha

B.I.B.L.E....yes that's the book for me

Josh and I attended a bible study last night, it was just a group of college students, quite a few actually, getting together going through the bible part by part. A good amount of people on Josh's staff attend and had invited us, so that was nice :o) Lately we've been feelin so old now, we used to be the same age, but now Josh has found himself like 8 years older than come incoming freshman, I guess he should speak for himself then, cause I'm still young ;o) haha....anyways the bible study was really good- we had a lot of fun. God has surely put us in a good place....

Just one wish...

I figured out what my one wish in life would be....not world peace cause seriously it just can't happen, not going to Disney World, cause well, I've alreayd been there......I would LOVE for Josh to experience just one day in the life of being pregnant....I mean really? wouldn't that be cool if guys could physically know what you're going through, what each movement feels like, why you want to take the elevator, etc... I mean Josh is a WONDERFUL husband and dad, and I'm not sayin this cause he doesn't apprecite what I go through, but it's like you're married, you're best friends, you share everything in the world together, but yet never has there been a time it's just not possible for him to feel what you're feeling.....ALTHOUGH I tend to wonder if it's coming true, cause I've noticed him talking about food and what he's craving everynight, and I havn't even had a craving yet....humm....well I do really want some of those candy cigarettes, which you can't FIND ANYWHERE ANYMORE!?!?

More like...Big Man Online

So, Josh's grad school is an online program, which leads us to buy him a laptop for school, because frankly our computer is kinda suckin it up lately. But we can't get the laptop until we get the refund check back from the federal loans we took out, which isn't until like a week before he starts.....makes you wonder why everything always comes down to the last line. When it comes to preparing for school, you always have to do everything last minute, because it's never done until then....just pray we find a good deal on one and it's what we're supposed to get, cause computers are so confusing these days as to what you really need and what you don't.....

Big man on Campus

Josh's grad school starts in Sept.!! yeh! Josh has doubts about it, but Emry and I are behind him, cheering him on ;o) It's always hard starting it off, but he said once he gets into the swing of it, it should come easier. He's so good at school, it has always come easy to him, so I know he'll do great. And what's nice about a Masters is it's specific to what you want to do in life, which is usually something you're passionate about.....instead of your undergrad which makes you take your major classes and anything from Math to basketweaving, in which you get a D in, okay maybe that's just me but still.....;o) He'll do great :o)

Stay in Skool Fool...

Just recently got done opening the building for the new sesmester :o) fewww...glad that's done, mainly cause it's a lot of work, ecspecially on Josh's end. he can finally get some sleep now, after going on only 3 hours every night. Always adds stress to everything but now everyone's settled in their cozy room, and now the fun can begin with all the programs and stuff- which is still a lot of work but done at a better pace than in the summer and opening :o)

Wilson

Owen Wilson has asked the media to allow him to "heal in private."

The log doesn't indicate who made the call Sunday, but lists "attempt suicide" as the reason for it.

Wilson was in good condition Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Hospital officials said Tuesday they weren't releasing any updated information.

The actor's publicist, Ina Treciokas, declined to answer questions Tuesday about whether Wilson attempted to commit suicide. She said Wilson's statement asking for privacy was all that was being released. Video Watch the mysteries surrounding Wilson's hospitalization »

Wilson had two movies in production and two more upcoming releases to help promote.

DreamWorks Pictures said in a statement that filming continues on "Tropic Thunder," a comedy starring Wilson. The studio offered no details on whether Wilson's role in the film, directed by Ben Stiller and starring Jack Black, would be recast.

It was also unknown if Wilson's hospitalization would affect his appearance opposite Jennifer Aniston in the 20th Century Fox comedy "Marley & Me."

A Fox spokesman told Hollywood trade paper Daily Variety that "it's a totally inappropriate question at this time" whether he would appear in the movie.

Wilson's hospitalization could also keep him from helping promote "The Darjeeling Limited," in which he stars alongside Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman. The Fox Searchlight film was to be released next month.

Paramount also had a Wilson film due out in March: the Judd Apatow-produced "Drillbit Taylor."

The 38-year-old actor was initially taken by ambulance from his home to Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica on Sunday and later transferred to Cedars.

The police log shows the initial call came in at 12:08 p.m. and cleared at 5:17 p.m. and a report was filed. Police said Monday that privacy laws prohibited them from releasing that document.

The police log was obtained Tuesday by CelebTV.com.

Treciokas released a brief statement on Wilson's behalf: "I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time."

Posey is a Celtic!

Wow, are the Celtics are looking good! What a year makes!!!!! They are going to be one of the top teams in the east, for sure!

"WALTHAM, Mass. -- Newly signed free agent forward James Posey took his seat in between one of the Boston Celtics' owners and director of basketball operations Danny Ainge, and something that was very noticeable right away was the oversized NBA championship ring on his left hand.

With the All-Star talent being assembled in Boston, James Posey brings championship experience to the Celtics.

"We're very happy Danny put this deal together and, obviously, from the weight on his hand he has championship experience," owner Steve Pagliuca said of the team's recent addition.

The Boston Celtics added another piece to what they hope is a championship-caliber team Monday, signing the 6-foot-8 free agent forward to a two-year deal. Posey will make between $7 and $7.5 million over the course of the deal, although the second season is a player option.

"I think he's one of the brightest spots this summer," Ainge said during a press conference to introduce Posey at the team's training complex. "He's a huge addition to our team. He's got incredible versatility on both ends of the court."

A member of the Miami Heat team that won the NBA championship in 2006, Posey completes an offseason rebuilding that saw Boston acquire veterans stars Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen along with role players Scot Pollard and Eddie House.

"You know what's going on [with this team]," Posey said. "First it was Ray Allen coming here and then it was KG. It was like 'Wow, things are starting to change.' You look for this opportunity and luckily it was there."

Known primarily as a defensive player, Posey has averaged 9.5 points and 4.9 rebounds during his eight-year career.

"Defensively, I think he's a great addition," Ainge said. "He can play the 2, the 3 or the 4. He can even defend some of the point guards in our league. That gives us a lot of options."

While waiting for a new place to play this summer, Posey watched the Celtics turn a team from next to worst in the league at the end of last season to a possible playoff contender.

"It was a chance to win a championship," said Posey, twisting his new No. 41 green jersey in between his hands while talking to the media. "It feels good to be a part of the tradition. I'm very excited for the opportunity to win."

Posey was later asked if he'd show Paul Pierce, Allen or Garnett, three stars who have yet to win a title, his ring.

"I might wear it one more time just to let the guys know what you play for," he said"

Hulk Hogan's, Terrence Bollea, son Nick Bollea was seriously injured in car crash!

Pray he recovers quickly...

"(CNN) -- A high-speed car accident in Florida has left the teenage son of wrestling star Hulk Hogan seriously injured and a companion in critical condition late Sunday, police said.

Nick Bollea, 17, was the driver of a Toyota Supra that went out of control while driving at a "high rate of speed" about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, said Wayne Shelor, spokesman for the Clearwater, Florida, police.

Hulk Hogan's real name is Terrence Bollea.

Bollea's injuries are not life-threatening. Passenger John J. Graziano, 22, of Dunedin, Florida, is in critical condition at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, police said Monday.

No charges have been filed, according to Clearwater police.

Firefighters had to extract Bollea and his passenger from the wreckage. Both were taken by helicopter to the St. Petersburg hospital, Shelor said.

"They're both down there. Nick's father is down there," he said..."

Griffin tried to overcome addiction, past behaviors

For those of you interested in more information on Eddie Griffin's death, here ya go!

"HOUSTON -- Eddie Griffin was going to give it one more shot, channeling all that talent back into a once-lucrative basketball career.

The fights, the arrests and most of all the alcoholism all seemed behind him as he worked his way back into playing shape in Houston this summer.

Many reached out to help him before and failed. Now, he was ready to show them all he could beat his addiction and succeed on his own.

The Minnesota Timberwolves had cut him in March, but maybe he could still become the superstar many projected him to be when he was drafted seventh overall in the 2001 draft.

In the end, Griffin couldn't outrun his demons, dying alone in a horrific traffic accident that sadly fit the other chapters of his troubled life.

Griffin was killed Aug. 17 when he drove his sport utility vehicle around a flashing gate at a railroad crossing and crashed into a passing freight train about 1:30 a.m. The SUV burst into flames and Griffin's body was burned beyond recognition. Authorities finally identified Griffin through dental records.

Toxicology reports are still pending, but those who know Griffin are assuming the worst -- that he went on one final drinking binge before the fatal drive.

"Eddie wanted to do the right thing, he truly wanted to," said Kevin McHale, the Timberwolves' vice president of basketball operations. "He could for a while and then things would happen in his life off the court or even on the court. His coping skills were not what they needed to be."

Griffin appeared in just 13 games with the Timberwolves last season, and none after Dec. 13. He pleaded guilty earlier in the season to inattentive driving after hitting a parked car while out late one night in Minneapolis. He was suspended by the NBA in January for five games for violating the anti-drug program and Minnesota waived him on March 13.

McHale said Griffin begged for help during his three seasons in Minnesota and even started taking Anabuse, a drug that makes alcoholics violently ill when they drink. But he admitted to McHale at one point that he was losing his battle.

"One of the conversations, Eddie said to me was 'I've gotta go. It's not healthy for me right now here,'" McHale said. "'It's not working. I'm in a bad spot.'"

McHale recommended that Griffin seek more help from former NBA player and coach John Lucas, who runs a program that specializes in helping former players with drug and alcohol addiction. Lucas enrolled Griffin in 2005 and Griffin successfully completed a six-month program, Lucas said, prompting the Wolves to offer him a contract extension.

This time, Griffin turned down Lucas' help, saying he was ready to get on with his life on his own.

And that's not what Lucas wanted to hear.

"In my business, that's not a good sign, it's a form of isolation," said Lucas. "If you isolate yourself, you forget where you've come from. You remember the sad things and sad times. You become your own worst enemy."

Griffin found more trouble not long after the Wolves released him.

On April 7, Griffin was charged with misdemeanor assault after an altercation with another man inside the house where Griffin lived with Jessica Jimenez, the mother of their now-3-year-old daughter.

Griffin had a second brush with the law just seven weeks later, arrested again on a misdemeanor assault charge after a fight with his brother, Jacques.

Griffin's attorney Derek Hollingsworth described the incidents as "misunderstandings" and said both charges were dismissed in July.

Hollingsworth said that was the last time he spoke with Griffin, who gave no indication that he was drinking again.

"I think it's always hard with anybody who has an alcohol problem, to tell if they turned the corner," Hollingsworth said. "But Eddie appeared to be in good shape, he was coherent, he made all of his appointments with me. Those are things that people who've turned the corner do.

"At the same time, when someone is suffering from alcoholism, it's always hard to tell what's going on in the dark hours of the night," he said.

Others also say Griffin seemed to be trying to get back on track.

He moved to Houston after the Timberwolves cut him and began working out in June with Hall of Famer Calvin Murphy, a former Rocket. Murphy runs private basketball classes for about two-dozen players of various skill levels and ages, from prepsters to professionals.

Murphy described Griffin as a model student, always on time for his daily 90-minute workouts and dedicated to improving. Griffin told Murphy that he had contacted the Denver Nuggets about a possible workout before the upcoming season.

Murphy and Wernick both said Griffin was considering playing in Europe if the NBA didn't pan out.

"He was there every morning religiously," Murphy said. "And I'm telling you, when I say this guy worked hard, I couldn't have been any more pleased with his progress. He was getting better and better."

But then came last Wednesday.

Griffin had previously asked to move up the start time of their workout -- from 9 a.m. to 8:30 -- and Murphy called him that morning to remind him.

"He said, 'Murph, I'm on my way.' But he didn't show up," Murphy said.

Murphy called Griffin again later that day and then again on Thursday morning, when Griffin was absent again. None of the players at the gym had heard from Griffin, either.

Two days later, all of them knew about the fiery crash at the railroad crossing in southeast Houston, but none suspected that Griffin might have been the unidentified driver pulled from the wreckage.

"I have a hard time believing he, all of a sudden, had a relapse and had gone back to drinking and this had happened," Murphy said. "Based on what I had seen from him every day, he had become frenetic about getting back to the league.

"I had absolutely no idea of any problems, alcohol-related or anything," he said.

As much time as he spent with Griffin this summer, Murphy admits their conversations rarely strayed from basketball. Griffin was quiet, introverted and focused during their workouts.

"He came to class, did what he had to do and then he went home," Murphy said.

Away from basketball was where Griffin always ran into problems.

In November 2003, while playing for the Rockets, Griffin was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, after a woman claiming to be his girlfriend accused him of punching her in the face and shooting a pistol at her car as she drove away.

Griffin missed practices and a team flight, and the Rockets suspended him and then waived him in December 2003.

New Jersey signed Griffin in January 2004 but then cut him less than two months later, when he checked into the Betty Ford Center to get treated for alcohol abuse.

Attorney Rusty Hardin, who represented Griffin in the 2003 assault case, said the Nets found a one-night hotel bill where Griffin had ordered 22 drinks up to his room -- all for him.

"He was a really, really kind, gentle soul who had an illness like, unfortunately, so many people," Hardin said.

Griffin was one of the nation's top freshmen at Seton Hall in 2000-01 and left for the NBA after just one college season. Lucas said it's too simple to say Griffin was overwhelmed by having too much money and fame too soon.

"He was a tremendous talent, but he didn't really love basketball that much," said Lucas, who had not spoken to Griffin since March. "He just didn't have a deep passion for it."

But Queen Bowen, Griffin's mother, told The Associated Press during a telephone interview that her son was still driven to play.

"Eddie is gone, and that's about all I have to say," she said. "He was a good person. He was working on getting himself together and getting back to playing ball. But he's gone now. I don't know what else to tell you."

www.regonline.com review.

www.regonline.com has put together some great new sites. I wanted to take the time to talk about one of them in particular. I took the time to go to one of their new event sites, about The Wounded Heart conference. I was very impressed with this site for a number of reasons, but the overall feeling it conveys is the most impressive. I didn't know much about The Wounded Heart conference or what it stood for, but after reading about it and seeing the tone of the registration site, I love it! At first I was wondering why the site was in somewhat dark colors, but it really does add to the overall emotion that the site conveys and helps display the seriousness of this conference. It really added to my overall experience of learning more about The Wounded Heart conference.

Another thing I liked was that the registration was online, and not from some newspaper. I am not a huge newspaper buff, but I do like to read the news, so I typically go online. It is easier, faster, and cheaper than paper. Not to mention sites are more engaging than reading something on paper.

The third thing that really stood out to me was how registering for the conference was one of the easiest forms I have seen on any registration site! All I had to do was click the register now button and follow each step. One thing that was kind of nice was that they kept the same theme throughout the registration as they did for the main registration site.

Here are a couple other cool layouts they have, for you to look at:

Finally, I want to encourage everyone to take a look at their corporate event planning software and see just how easy it is to set up a free account.

Stephon Marbury defends Michael Vick's dogfighting! Now he says Vick is wrong!

Stephon Marbury is busy opening his mouth, as usual. This time, it was to defend Michael Vick. Marbury blamed "us" for the situation, and then he realized what a fool he was and came out today, saying he doesn't defend Vick but he says that, "I don't think [Vick's] right. But this dude is trying to ask for forgiveness.".. more on this in a minute.

So, we all know that Stephon Marbury is known for speaking before he thinks, but he actually came out and said, "From what I hear, dogfighting is a sport. It's just behind closed doors and I think it's tough that we build Michael Vick up and then we break him down ... I think he fell into a bad situation."... I would like Marbury to explain how we are at fault for Vick being an idiot. How are we at fault for "breaking him down?" Lets clear something up... Michael Vick did not "fall" into a bad situation, he CHOSE to live in the spotlight, and CHOSE to break the law. I have not heard any media outlets be abusive towards Vick. Sure, they discuss the topic, detest Vick's actions and are speaking their minds, but I don't think that is unfair at all! Vick could have easily avoided this kind of attention by NOT dogfighting. Don't blame the media for Vick's actions!

How did Marbury try to backup these statements? Well he compared dogfighting to deer hunting, "We don't say anything about people shooting deers and shooting other animals, you know what I mean?"... Actually Marbs, I have NO idea what you mean. How can you compare electrocuting dogs that don't meet your fighting expectations, to shooting for eating? I don't even need to answer this.

Now, lets briefly discuss Marbury's most recent comments, where he attempts to cover his foolish statements. Marbury said, "I don't think [Vick's] right. But this dude is trying to ask for forgiveness. ... The way the way it's going about in the newspapers and TV, it's ridiculous." Don't you just love how yesterday he was saying that dogfighting is like deer hunting, and now he comes out and says he doesn't agree with Vick? I love how he says this and then goes right back into defending him, saying that Vick asked forgiveness.

So, because Vick asked forgiveness means that the media should just forget about it and leave the story alone? I would argue that Vick hasn't really apologized in the first place. Saying sorry and then making all kinds of excuses is not really apologizing.

Hey Starbury, just keep your mouth shut... every time you open it you say something stupid.

Get involved with The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk!

I remember when my grandma would talk about teaching and how much she loved it! I remember her taking us to sporting events and would even watch football with us, whenever we visited. I really miss those times and wish that Alzheimer's wouldn't have taken it's course. Now, my grandma has no memory of anything and has to be force-fed. It is hard for me to visit her and to think of how lively she used to be.

While this is not the only reason I support The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk, it definitely contributes to why I feel so strongly towards it. The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research. It takes place annually in hundreds of communities all around the country. It is a great idea to sign up early. If my grandma were able to speak, she would definitely encourage me to be apart of this event. "Since 1989, Memory Walk has raised more than $225 million."

I live and work on campus here in Arlington, Texas, and am looking forward to this event being held right here on campus September 22nd. As with any event like this, Team captains are needed. It is not difficult to be a Team Captain, and remember that it is important to sign up early to ensure you have enough time to recruit a team and raise funds for the cause! If you can not commit to being a Team Captain, you should still think about participating and joining a team.

I think that they put it best, when they say, "By teaming up with the Alzheimer's Association, you can walk with a purpose – and move us closer to a world without Alzheimer's. Together, we can MOVE a nation." The Alzheimer's Association can really assist us all in making a difference! Check out the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk and sign up today!

Turkish / Turkey jet hijacked!!! Terrorists Hold hostages! BREAKING

This world is full of idiots! People who plan attacks like 9-11 really scare me, but guys like these two really scare me! They don't plan, don't have a real reason for why they are harming others. Apparently they told a flight attendant that they were "brothers of the Muslims." This was all they said and it sounds like they just snapped and held the people hostage for no real reason other than "being brothers of the Muslims." I am pretty sure that no Muslim friends of mine would want to claim either of these two as one of their "brothers."

Some witnesses on the plane said that the situation started shortly after take off. After the plane was in the air, the two men ran to the cockpit doors and tried to break in. When their attempt didn't work, they demanded, to the flight attendants, that they be taken to Iran or Syria.

I am very glad that these two men finally surrendered, but the fact that someone would hijack a plane for such a stupid reason is beyond me. Don't get me wrong, I think the motives of the 9-11 attackers were idiotic, but they had a reason (while a very twisted reason, they had a reason). These two men did it just because they were "brothers." This world is starting to scare me and I hope y'all pray for it as much as I do.

NBA player, Eddie Griffin Killed in Car Crash

What a sad story! I remember when Eddie Griffin was drafted and I thought he would be great! He had size, athleticism, and could shoot. But then.... his career went down the tubes and he started getting in trouble with the law. It is very sad that his public life probably contributed to many of his issues.

I remember meeting Eddie last year before a Mavs vs. Twolves game. He didn't smile once. When I asked a question, he just looked down and mumbled. I could tell something wasn't right. I truly hope this incident wasn't due to any drug use, as I always hoped and prayed Eddie would get better! His family are in my prayers.

Here is the story I found about the accident, on ESPN.com:

"HOUSTON, Aug. 21 (AP) -- Former Minnesota Timberwolves forward Eddie Griffin died last week when his sport utility vehicle collided with a freight train in a fiery crash, the Harris County medical examiner's office said Tuesday.

Investigators used dental records to identify Griffin, 25, who began his tumultuous pro career with the Houston Rockets in 2001. He was waived by the Timberwolves in March.

The five-year veteran, who was the No. 7 pick in the 2001 NBA draft, had battled alcohol problems since coming out of Seton Hall. Griffin was suspended by the league for five games in January for violating its anti-drug program.

Houston police said in a report that the driver of the SUV ignored a railroad warning and went through a barrier before striking the moving train about 1:30 a.m. Friday.

The driver's body was badly burned and there was no identification.

"I was able this afternoon to get some dental records from the one dentist he had gone to see in Houston, and they were able to use that apparently to positively identify him,'' said Derek S. Hollingsworth, an attorney who has represented Griffin in criminal cases.

Hollingsworth said he spoke with Griffin's mother, who was devastated by the news.

Griffin had a series of suspensions, court dates and missed practices during his first two years in the NBA with Houston and New Jersey. He spent time in the Betty Ford Center for alcohol treatment in 2003-04.

Hollingsworth said he found Griffin to be kind and gentle - behavior inconsistent with how the player was described in police reports.

"He had a problem with alcohol, and I think that was a medication for him, and I think that led to a lot of issues,'' Hollingsworth said.

Griffin, who played forward and center, signed with the Timberwolves as a free agent before the 2004 season. He showed enough promise as a shot-blocker and rebounder to be signed to an extension, but was waived in March after playing in just 13 games last season with the Wolves.

The Wolves put his locker right next to star Kevin Garnett, hoping the former MVP could help straighten Griffin out.

Griffin put up some big numbers on occasion with the Wolves, but continued to get into trouble off the court. He pleaded guilty last season to inattentive driving after he hit a parked car while out late one night in Minneapolis."

Bomb kills Iraq Governor, Mohammed Ali al-Hassani, in Baghdad!

While I think a lot of Americans are idiots and are really uneducated and un-supportive (they call it "freedom of speech) of our troops and government, I am sure glad that we do not have to worry about stuff like this (for the most part). Not only was Mohammed Ali al-Hassani murdered but then it was commended by the Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki! And to think there are people who say we should just leave Iraq and it will be better... We leave Iraq now and we would all be in very big trouble!

Here is CNN's story and here is the link to the full story.

"BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- The governor of Muthana province in southern Iraq was killed by a roadside bomb in the city of Samawa Monday morning, an official with Iraq's Interior Ministry said.

Mohammed Ali al-Hassani was traveling with his bodyguards when the attack took place around 9 a.m. (1 a.m. ET).

The governor was a member of the Supreme Islamic Council in Iraq, the largest Shiite political group in parliament led by Iraqi politician Abdul Aziz al-Hakim.

Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki quickly condemned the governor's killing and those who carried it out.

"Those who stand behind this heinous crime want to drown the province in chaos and insecurity as an implementation of the agenda that does not want good for the sons of our people," Maliki said.

In a similar attack on August 11, Qadisiya province Gov. Khalil Jalil Hamza and Brig .Gen. Khalid Abed Hassan, the provincial police chief, were killed in a roadside bombing. Three of the governor's bodyguards were also killed and three others were wounded.

Mathana is one of several southern provinces in Iraq that British forces have returned to Iraqi military control since the start of the war.

Meanwhile, at least one person was killed and three others injured when a mortar hit eastern Baghdad's Amin neighborhood Monday at midday, an Interior Ministry official said.

A few hours earlier, three people were killed and 11 injured in the Rusafi district of central Baghdad when a motorcycle rigged with explosives blew up, the ministry said.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki arrived in Damascus, Syria, on Monday -- the start to an official three-day visit, Iraqi state TV reported. This is his first trip to Syria as prime minister."

Illegal imigrant, Elvira Arellano, caught and Deported

Ok, here we go again... make the US look like the bad guy because we deport someone who BROKE THE LAW! I am ALL for us allowing immigrants into the US, IF they do it the right way. BUT, don't break the law, hide from the police for a year, and then BLAME the government when you are finally caught and deported. One person even had the guts to say, "We are sad, but at the same time we are angry, How dare they arrest this woman?" haha, this almost makes me laugh.... next he will say, "How dare they arrest a murderer!" The law is the law, for a reason.

Here is the link to the artical!

"LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- An illegal immigrant who stayed in an Illinois church for a year to avoid separation from her 8-year-old son, a U.S. citizen, was arrested Sunday and was being processed for deportation.

Elvira Arellano and her son Saul attend a press conference at a Chicago church on Wednesday.

Elvira Arellano, who arrived in Los Angeles on Saturday after leaving her sanctuary to campaign for immigration reform, was arrested around 1:30 p.m. outside Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church where she had been speaking to reporters, said the Rev. Walter Coleman, pastor of Adalberto United Methodist, the Chicago, Illinois, church.

Arellano was "being processed for removal to Mexico based upon a deportation order originally issued by a federal immigration judge in 1997," U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a news release.

Immigration activists promised protests and vigils to support her.

"We are sad, but at the same time we are angry," said Javier Rodriguez, a Chicago immigration activist who worked with her. "How dare they arrest this woman?"

Anti-illegal immigrant groups said the arrest was long overdue.

"Just because the woman has gone public and made an issue of the fact that she is defying law doesn't mean the government doesn't have to do its job," said Ira Mehlman of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which favors limits on immigration.

Arellano, 32, has become a symbol of the struggles of illegal immigrant parents and a source of controversy. She had said Saturday she was not afraid of being taken into custody by immigration agents.

"From the time I took sanctuary the possibility has existed that they arrest me in the place and time they want," she said in Spanish. "I only have two choices. I either go to my country, Mexico, or stay and keep fighting. I decided to stay and fight."

At an afternoon news conference in Los Angeles, Arellano's son, Saul, hid behind Coleman's wife, Emma Lozano, and wiped away tears. Lozano said she is the boy's legal guardian.

"He's taking it better than we thought he would," said Lozano, the head of an immigration rights group in Chicago.

Arellano came to Washington state illegally in 1997. She was deported to Mexico shortly after, but returned and moved to Illinois in 2000, taking a job cleaning planes at O'Hare International Airport.

She was arrested in 2002 at O'Hare and convicted of working under a false Social Security number. She was to surrender to authorities last August.

She sought refuge at the storefront church on Chicago's West Side August 15, 2006. She had not left the church property until deciding to be driven to Los Angeles, Coleman said.

As news of her arrest spread Sunday, members of the Chicago church began arriving to pray.

"People will be sad about what happened to Elvira," said Catherine Archibald, a member of the congregation and a friend of Elvira's. "But I think it is very important now that we mobilize and push even harder."

Famlies of trapped miners MAD about rescue efforts

This is a very tough situation for everyone involved, and it is hard for me to see why these families are taking it out on the mine owner. I understand that they are sad and want to keep trying, but they aren't thinking about the rescue crews at all. Not only has it been 14 days since they were trapped, but their has been 3 rescue workers killed and others injured in trying to save them.

At some point, when it is too dangerous, the search must stop. I know I am going to catch some heat for saying this and the comments will likely come flooding in, but I am not saying this to be insensitive. I feel for the families of the miners, but I also feel for the families of the rescue workers who lost their loved ones, too. If the rescue attempts weren't getting so dangerous, they would still be looking... but don't say they are "giving up"!

Hurricane Dean UPDATE! Jamaica in trouble!

Here is an update of Hurricane Dean

(CNN) -- Hurricane Dean intensified Saturday as it muscled across the Caribbean and headed toward a dangerous rendezvous Sunday with Jamaica.

Forecasters fear Dean will be a destructive Category 5 monster packing 155 mph winds by then.

Even worse could be yet to come. By Monday, as Dean nears Cancun and other tourist areas along Mexico's eastern Yucatan coast, its sustained winds could be 160 mph, with gusts as high as 195 mph -- wreaking new havoc on an area heavily damaged just two years ago by Hurricane Wilma.

Saturday morning, as Dean roiled the open waters south of Puerto Rico, the storm's maximum sustained winds neared 150 mph with higher gusts, putting it at Category 4 intensity and making it the strongest storm so far of the 2007 Atlantic hurricane season.

The storm could force NASA to cut short the space shuttle Endeavour's flight if Dean heads toward Mission Control in Houston, Reuters reported.

NASA shortened Saturday's spacewalk and prepared for a possible Tuesday landing -- one day earlier than scheduled. Bringing Endeavour back early would allow NASA to complete the flight before Mission Control would have to be evacuated, Reuters reported.

"We'd really like to protect an option to be able to end the mission on Tuesday," mission management team chairman Leroy Cain said, according to Reuters.

The Associated Press reported several deaths and significant damage on the islands of St. Lucia, Dominica and Martinique. Video Watch wind whip St. Kitts »

Dean is forecast to reach Category 5 strength -- the highest rating on the Saffir-Simpson scale of hurricane intensity -- later in the day Saturday, with winds of at least 151 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.

"On this track the core of the hurricane will be moving south of the Dominican Republic later today and south of Haiti tonight," the center reported at 8 a.m. Saturday.

With long-range computer models showing Dean turning north after striking Mexico, officials in Texas and Louisiana launched preparations for a possible midweek landfall.

Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco declared a state of emergency Friday and activated the state's emergency response center. Texas Gov. Rick Perry called Dean an imminent threat and took steps to deploy emergency responders to the coast.

"It is imperative that Texans living along the coast pay close attention to threatening weather conditions and heed the warnings of their local leaders," Perry said.

Southern Texas was still dealing with flooding caused by Tropical Depression Erin, which dumped heavy rain on the region late in the week. The storm has left six people dead and one missing, according to The Associated Press. Photo See dramatic images as

Blanco, whose state was devastated by hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, urged Louisianans to "be prepared for the worst and hope for the best."

At 8 a.m. Saturday, the center of Dean -- which crossed through the Leeward Islands late Thursday and early Friday as a Category 2 storm -- was 615 miles east-southeast of Kingston, Jamaica, and 250 miles south-southeast of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, moving west at about 17 mph, according to the hurricane center.

The storm was forecast to strengthen as it moves across open waters south of Puerto Rico and the island of Hispaniola, which comprises the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

"On this track the core of the hurricane will be moving south of the Dominican Republic later today and south of Haiti tonight," the center reported at 5 a.m.

A hurricane warning remained in effect Saturday for the southern coast of Hispaniola. That means hurricane conditions, including winds of at least 74 mph, were expected within 24 hours.

Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands were still under a tropical storm warning as Dean passed to the south. Tropical storm conditions, including winds in excess of 39 mph, were expected within 24 hours. The weather center said those warnings would likely be discontinued later in the day.

The hurricane center forecast rainfall of up to 5 inches in Puerto Rico, Haiti and the Dominican Republic, which could trigger flash floods......"

UPDATE on Michael Vick dogfighting case!

Michael Vick has to be even more scared, after finding out that the last of his co-defendants, Quanis Phillips and Purnell Peace, have both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture. They not only pleaded guilty, but have agreed to testify against Michael Vick.

This is scary to Vick because Peace is going to testify that both himself and Vick fought dogs together, and even share one story of how they "executed [a] dog by wetting the dog down with water and electrocuting the animal." This is just one of nine executions that Peace will discuss in front of the jury. Their testimony will be graphic, brutal, and prove to be very damning, for Vick!

Jenna Bush, President George Bush's daughter, is getting married / engaged!

Oh my gosh, can you believe it? Jenna Bush is getting married, this has to be breaking news! haha.. just kidding, but here it is for those of you interested...

(CNN) -- "Jenna Bush, President and Laura Bush's daughter, is engaged, the White House said Thursday.

Henry Hager and Jenna Bush, pictured in May 2006, got engaged Wednesday.

His father, John Hager, is the chairman of the Virginia Republican Party.

"President and Mrs. George W. Bush are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jenna Bush, to Mr. Henry Hager, son of the Honorable and Mrs. John H. Hager of Richmond, Virginia," press secretary Sally McDonough said in a statement.

Hager proposed in Maine on Wednesday, according to the first lady's office. He is returning to the University of Virginia in the fall, where he is getting his master's degree in business. He went to Wake Forest University for his undergraduate studies, The Associated Press reported.

The couple have been dating for nearly two years, according to The Washington Post.

When asked if they would marry in the Rose Garden, McDonough said: "They have not set any details, date or place," AP reported.

The last White House wedding was on June 12, 1971, when Tricia Nixon was married.

Seven other daughters have had White House weddings: Maria Monroe (1820), Elizabeth Tyler (1842), Nellie Grant (1874), Alice Roosevelt (1906), Jessie Wilson (1913), Eleanor Wilson (1914) and Lynda Bird Johnson (1967).

Lucy Johnson Nugent was married while her father was in office, but the ceremony took place at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

There was a White House wedding in 1994, but it didn't involve a president's child. Hillary Clinton's brother, Tony Rodham, married Nicole Boxer in the Rose Garden.

Only one son was married in the White House -- John Adams, son of President and Mrs. John Quincy Adams (1828)."

Huntington, Utah Miners still trapped. Encouraging news!

Such a sad story! I know the first two holes have not proved successful, but we all hold out hope that they will find these men. I can't imagine what these families are going through. I was talking with my mother today and she was saying how she felt this way every time my father would go off to work, since he was an officer for 25 years. These families have a lot of support and I know we will be praying for them. here is the whole story that CNN published today:

"HUNTINGTON, Utah (CNN) -- Efforts to reach six men trapped deep underground in Utah's Crandall Canyon mine are going disappointingly slow, but rescuers have had some encouraging news, officials said Thursday.

Mine co-owner Bob Murray, consoles Crandall Canyon mine safety officer Bodie Allred.

Bob Murray, president and CEO of mine co-owner Murray Energy Group Corp., said video taken from a camera lowered into the hole showed a large, open cavity.

"If the men did go to this area that is open, the air is there, the water is there, everything is there to sustain them indefinitely until we get to them," Murray said.

But he stressed that rescuers do not know if the miners were in that area.

Rescuers are still more than 1,000 feet from reaching the section where the men were believed to be working, Murray said.

Seismic movement Wednesday night loosened rubble that covered the "continuous miner" machine -- a powerful plow that chews up coal and shovels it into carts following behind -- halting work for a while, Murray said. Another shake delayed work later Thursday morning, he said. Watch as Murray shows video taken from the mine »

"I'm so sorry, ladies and gentlemen, to tell these families that we're not making better progress underground," Murray said. "And it's strictly due to the fact that the mountain is still alive and the mountain is not allowing us to advance as rapidly as we would like to."

Rescuers plan to drill a fourth hole to try to find the miners, who've been trapped for 10 days in the central Utah coal mine. See photos of the rescue efforts »

Murray said it probably would take two days to drill the 1,586-foot-deep shaft.

On Wednesday, underground listening devices, called geophones, picked up a "series of spikes" over a five-minute period.

Rescuers said they didn't know what the sounds were, but they said they were encouraged.

Murray said the sensors have not picked up the noises again.

"Those sounds could have been anything, and we've said that from the beginning," Murray said Thursday.

Don't Miss
In depth: Miners trapped
Mine survivor: 'I think I did everything I could'
CEO still hopeful that miners are alive
Two earlier bore holes have yielded no signs of life, but they have shown there is survivable space and some breathable air, rescuers have said.

During the drilling of the third bore hole Wednesday morning, two of the six geophone listening devices on the mountain above the mine detected the unknown noise, Stickler said. It lasted for about five minutes, stopped and has not been detected since, he said.

Geophones have never been successfully used to rescue trapped miners, but, in experiments, they have been able to pick up signals as far as 2,000 feet under the surface, Stickler said.

The six miners were trapped August 6, when the mine collapsed. In addition to drilling holes down into the mine, rescuers also have been working around the clock to clear rubble from a 2,000-foot stretch of tunnel leading to where the miners were thought to have been working. However, that work has been moving slowly, hampered by unstable conditions and seismic shifts inside the mine.

Murray maintains that an earthquake, not mining activity, caused the collapse. However, seismologists at the U.S. Geological Survey say there was no earthquake and the collapse registered as a 3.9-magnitude quake.

Friends and family have identified the trapped men as Louis Alonso Hernandez, 23; Manuel Sanchez, 41; Kerry Allred, 57; Carlos Payan, in his 20s; Brandon Phillips, 24; and Don Erickson, 50."

They strive for development, protecting the environment, and relief aid. Some of their activities in the US are clothes collection, recycling, partnership in development and sharing information about development issues.
